Matt's Big Day

Today was the day of the big 25 mile bike race. It was up in Pocatello, ID. Sadly, my husband has gone through several tubes in the last few days. He's learning the adage "haste makes waste". He gets so excited when he's pumping his tires that he doesn't take the time to nicely take the pump off. Instead, he winds up tearing it off and ruining the tire. He's learning...slowly.

He was really excited yesterday because his new jersey came in the mail. He had ordered it earlier this week and had been disappointed that it wouldn't be here in time for the race. Think again. It got here just in time.

Ain't he cute? I just love Shrek, he's one of my favorite characters.

This was Matt just before the race began.

It was such a beautiful day...I'm glad we remembered the sunblock this time.

At the starting line. He looks so serious ;) Sorry it's so blurry. I'm not a photographer, ya know.

And, of course, ready to collapse. He came in third in his group...of fifteen. He finished in 1:30hrs, 30 minutes longer than his goal... but then he wasn't anticipating the hills.

It was such a fun day. This little guy participated in the Kid's Bike Race. Not sure how he did it without pedals, but he must be talented because he also towed around his little stuffed toy the entire time. What a hoot!

It wasn't a huge event, just a little Endurance Festival. Our last event was much larger...probably because it was a charity event.

I found out yesterday, in my Botany Lab, that one of my teachers belongs to a road bike club. They go out for an hour each week to ride and he actually invited Matt to join them...it's free. I think it would be good for him since it's only 1 hour each week, and it would be great for him to be able to pick the brains of people who have competed and ridden centuries (100 miles) and tours (several hundred miles).
